I have been on Plaquenil for the past eight months and I am always sick. I can't count how many times in that time span I got sick but all of my doctors refer to the plaquenil as an immunosuppressant. Since I have been on RA meds it takes me twice as long to get healthy again from an illness. Hydroxychloroquine is a DMARD. The brand name is Plaquenil. What does Plaquenil do? Plaquenil relieves pain and swelling and prevents damage to joints. How long does Plaquenil take to work? Plaquenil works very slowly. In 1 to 3 months you should start to feel better. You may continue to get better for up to 1 year. Plaquenil is an anti-arthritis drug used to treat connective tissue disorders. What it does is make the body more alkaline. It is prescribed with Biaxin Clarithromycin-an intracellular abx a lot because by making the body more alkaline, the Biaxin can more easily penetrate the body's cells, which makes it up to 40% more effective.

Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine.

Sjogren's Syndrome Symptoms, Treatment, Diagnosis, & Diet. I am 68 years old and have had Sjogren's syndrome with vasculitis for the past 15 years. The symptoms have been kept at bay with Plaquenil and eye drops, other than the purpura purple spots that would randomly appear and disappear all over my body.

Stopping plaquenil. DailyStrength Hello all, I am currently new to this site and ran across the discussion about stopping Plaquenil. I have been taking Plaquenil for about 8-9 months and thought that it was not helping me because I still have a fair amount of joint pain, fatigue, muscle pain and so many other issues.
